As the news cycle heats up this fall and tensions in the world are high, one way I've been gaining some peace is to spend lots and lots of time outside.

One fun and rewarding project I took on last summer is planting some pollinator and hummingbird friendly plants in the backyard and I have continued to improve our set up. I tinker, I plant, some plants die (look, one has to be hardy around here to make it!) and I re-plant. I continue to cultivate in my own little corner of the universe.

Funny story- I got inspired last year in September to start this hummingbird garden project. I went to the garden store, got a few plants that were recommended to me, and got out our hummingbird feeders. I was pretty sure it was too late in the season to attract the lil' birds but inspiration hit me nevertheless and I was going to plant these plants, dang it! Even if just for the next season.

I got home that afternoon, put up my feeders and got to planting. Some folks told me I needed to be patient, the birds may not find them for a while, it could take a few weeks or maybe they wouldn't even come until the next spring. But lo and behold, within about 10 minutes of getting a few plants in the ground and getting the feeders up, we had a couple hummingbirds buzzing around the yard. And this year, we believe we had a few families in a couple of the trees out back. It's been a big success.

Yesterday, I took a little video to show you around. Take a peek and let me know what you think!

What have you been doing to lower your stress level and have some fun this summer? We'd love to hear from you.

Until next time!
